Jay-z Making Power Moves!!!! Grind 101

It’s official. Shawn Carter has left the building… well, the Def Jam building. In a move that was first reported at Hits Daily Double, Jay-Z has bought back the last remaining record on his Island Def Jam deal for a number rumored to be around $5 million so he can start recording with his own imprint, Roc Nation, which falls under the Live Nation umbrella. Whispers about all the movement were authenticated on May 21 when Hove reached out to Rap Radar. "I can honestly say, working with [Universal Music Group CEO] Doug Morris and [IDJ head] L.A. Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience, and I respect them immensely," Jay told the web site. "I've been in the family for almost my entire career. Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique 'negotiations' ever." Like you, we’re hoping all of this business about labels and deals gets worked out pretty quickly, so Hove can put focus where it needs to be- completing The Blueprint 3 with Kanye West.
